The Turning Hub is a local community project that promotes and encourages cycling by providing cycling related services.
We can run after school clubs, bicycle maintenance workshops, maintenance training and we are currently working with other charities providing bicycle refurbishment from donated bicycles.
If you would like The Turning Hub to visit your school or organisation, to discuss cycling or to find out more about what we do, get in touch using the ‘Contact Us‘ web page.
We succesfully bid for money from the Community Cycling Fund for London, a fund that helps communities set up projects that encourage people to cycle. The money came from Transport for London and the Big Lottery.
After working on a bike club at Orleans Park secondary school during the 2009-2010 school year, we decided to create a project that could visit schools and organisations across the borough. Once the funding applications were open, we bid for the money and won.
We provide any cycling related activity the participants would like us to bring. So far we’ve provided after school bike clubs, British Cycling Go-Ride skills and games, maintenance sessions, bike polo and are helping people set up bike recycling centres in their communities. We have trained the trainers, we’ve helped people fix up their bikes and we’ve grown the confidence of many people via instruction.
Most of the people who work on the project are cycling instructors, mechanics, coaches or people interested in getting people to cycle more. We try to provide a high level of service: all our volunteers and paid workers are CRB checked, each session has a session plan and we undertake risk assessments. We believe in being professional.
